Our Family is big, we work hard & play harder.
We try our best to balance work, family vacations, & sports. As well as hunting, fishing & camping in this beautiful state of Alaska.
Doug & Shannon, owner operators of Northern Superior Construction. They originally lived in southern Oregon, and relocated temporarily in Petersburg, AK for a logging job, it was short, but long enough to fall in love with the beauty Alaska has to offer. In 1999 they finally made the big move and permanently moved their family of 5 to the Kenai Peninsula. They successfully built their residential, commercial & remodel company for over 20 years, and are well respected members of the KPBA. Parents to 3 amazing children, and a gaggle of grandchildren.
James & Melissa, their daughter & son-in-law. James has over 15 years in the drilling industry. He started his career roughnecking in the oilfield for Nabors Alaska, worked on various rigs in the Cook Inlet & North Slope and eventually worked his way into a drilling position for Doyon Drilling. Melissa spent many years drawing house plans for her father's company, while being a stay-at-home mom to their two boys, one who hopes to continue drilling like his dad, and one that wants to be a commercial airline pilot.
Matthew, their son will carry on the building trade. He worked alongside his dad his whole life, eventually branching out and building his own construction company.
Huntre & Sierra, their daughter & son-in-law. Huntre is an electrician in the oilfield. They own a tree-removal, snow-removal & excavation company that Sierra & their girls run while he's gone, & together when he's home.
In short, the whole family revolves around the trades industry and hope to continue to build generations of such!
One night around the fire, (a few beers involved) Doug mentioned the high demand for water well drillers and James joked that he knows how to drill a hole in the ground, and with that a new dream was built.
Doug had the experience setting all his own pumps on the houses he built over the years and decided to include water wells in his profile of his long list of construction services and install pumps and water lines. James decided he wanted to build and own a well drilling company someday.
Northern Superior Construction has had a close working relationship with many drillers on the Kenai Peninsula, we originally reached out to retired driller Jeanette Diamond who owned Northland Drilling. She was more than excited to jump on board and "Sensi" James in learning how to drill water instead of oil and help create a new generation of a water drilling company. Including joining us on a 2 day trip to Fairbanks, AK to buy our first rig a 1979 TH60 in 2021. With her we are able to say we successfully drilled 100 wells our first year Drilling. We joined the NGWA in 2022 and in December, attended our first NGWA Convention. Becoming members of Alaska Well drillers Association in 2023.
James & Melissa started the drilling company originally under the business of Northern Superior Construction with the TH60. After 2.5 years of hard work, dedication (and maybe a few tears) they were able to branch out and start a "Drilling" company of their own, Nothern Superior Drilling. Purchasing their second rig a 1991 T3 from Wisconsin. A journey that involved months of planning, countless hours of logistics, and many mishaps along the way. The journey involved a 2K mile low boy haul to Bellingham, WA. a 70hr ferry ride on the Kennicott to Haines, AK. and a 900 Mile/22 Hour drive home to the peninsula. Encountering everything from trucker changes, coast guard shutdowns, sun burns on a ferry, a full route change through Canada, spending a night in Tok, AK and driving the treacherous Glenn Hwy. in a snow blizzard, all before road restrictions hit April 1st. We made it safely and drilled our first well with the new rig in May 2024.
